The Wimbledon Clinics Sports Medicine doctors have extensive experience in looking after both elite and recreational athletes with a variety of sport and exercise related problems.  They form part of a multi-disciplinary team approach to the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries.

Sport physicians are not surgeons but, as most sports injuries do not require surgical intervention, the sports physician should be the first point of contact for any sports or exercise related injury.  They will use their clinical skills to diagnose the problem and refer on for further investigations as appropriate.   Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, then a treatment plan can be initiated and implemented.   This may involve referral on for physiotherapy, podiatry or surgery, and the advantage of working as part of a multidisciplinary team is that all onward referrals can be made swiftly to other members of the team.   At the Wimbledon Clinics all of this can be arranged on site with a minimum of time delay.

Sports doctors deal not only with sports injuries but also with any medical issues related to exercise.  These might include exercise-induced asthma, fatigue and underperformance.  As part of the clinic we have access to sports psychology and expert nutritional advice, which is often needed when  trying to enhance performance.   In addition, the sports physicians have an important part in injury prevention and can offer advice about how to exercise safely without developing problems.

The Wimbledon Sports Injury Clinic offers a variety of services including:
Compartment pressure testing, cortisone injections, local anaesthetic injections, brace fittings, general fitness and wellbeing assessments, pre-season assessments for elite athletes and rehabilitation management.
