Hip Research and Education Autumn 2008 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr David Ward specialises in hip surgery and has recently been busy lecturing and presenting research. In the Summer, the results of his complex revision hip surgery using trabecular metal were presented at the European Hip Society in Madrid. This technique allows reconstruction of badly failed hip replacement sockets using a special metal (tantalum). In September Mr Ward lectured to a prestigious Transatlantic Hip Forum on the use of hip replacements without cement. He was also a guest lecturer at the British Association of Sports Exercise Medicine (BASEM) on the topic of sporting activity after hip replacement. With many young patients now being considered for hip replacement or hip resurfacing, this is an important area and one which Mr Ward is well qualified to discuss with you in more details
