Patient testimonial

"I had an initial consultation with Mr Bell of the Wimbledon Clinic concerning a meniscal tear to my left knee. Mr Bell explained the injury and talked me through the prognosis whilst being very positive with regard to the outcome.

The minor operation took place at Parkside Hospital and I was surprised at my completely painless mobility hours afterwards. I was walking normally the next day, climbing stairs effortlessly and inside two weeks I was comfortably walking five miles in Richmond Park. The physio was impressed with the result and commented on my range of movement.

Mr Bell is extremely personable and quite obviously at the top of his game. Patients tend to have a natural level of concern regarding operations and yet Mr Bell imbues confidence and calm, both terrific attributes in this situation!

The operation, the day room at Parkside and the nursing were all seamless and I have no hesitation in fully recommending him."

Testimonial

"Having had knee pain for a year, and not being good in hospitals, it was very reassuring to be looked after by Mr Fairbank and the wonderful team at Wimbledon Clinics - from the appointments with Mr Fairbank, to his team who made booking the scan and operation so simple (they even rang the day before to answer last minute queries), and to the hospital team itself, I was totally relaxed throughout.

The outcome was, of course, excellent and I am enjoying walking and gardening again. I cannot recommend Mr Fairbank and Wimbledon Clinics enough".

Why choose Serena Stubbs?

Serena Stubbs has extensive experience in the industry, having previously worked within the NHS and private sector for nearly 20 years, gaining her degree in 1998 from La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. Combining detailed knowledge and experience within the sports sector, Serena has a strong referral base across the UK and internationally.

Clinical orthotic services provided by Serena Stubbs include: biomechanical assessments; sports knee bracing for ligament or cartilage injuries; and osteoarthritis unloader knee bracing to help patients remain active for longer with reduced pain and improved function. She is also skilled in general orthotics (selected upper limb and spinal bracing).

What are the benefit of having your brace fitted by an Orthotist?
  • If you’ve had an injury or experiencing problems with your knee then it is important that the knee brace meets your medical needs, in terms of both injury and activity.
  • A professional assessment and fitting ensures that you are using the right product for the right problem resulting in optimal fit and function. The more rigid the frame the more important the correct fitting is.
  • A brace assessment aims to provide you with the opportunity to ‘try out’ a functional knee brace within the session. This will enable you to decide whether an ‘off the shelf’ or custom-made brace will suit your needs.
  • The orthotist will ensure that the brace delivers optimal fit and full customisation when required, particularly for skiers under 5’3’’.
Increased confidence, peace of mind and reassurance that you have the correct product – with ongoing support and trouble-shooting if required.
  • Long term reviews and maintenance are available to update your brace fit as your knee changes or parts need replacing.
12 month ‘fit’ warranty available for fully custom made braces.
  • Only clinically proven designs from leading manufacturers are offered to our patients.

A functional knee brace is built to last on average 10-15 years therefore it is got to be worth getting it right from the beginning!
Note: *2 week turnaround for custom made knee braces with fitting appointment required.*

Private medical insurance does not usually cover sports knee bracing.

Testimonials

“I’ve had problems with both of my knees for years. They’d often give way and I was so unstable, I felt nervous in big crowds – especially when travelling around London during rush hour.

After multiple operations I decided to book an appointment with Serena Stubbs, Specialist Consultant Orthotist at Wimbledon Clinics. Serena suggested that I get a low-profile brace, essentially to stop my leg from collapsing.

To be treated by Serena was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Professional and personable, she explained each step in detail to make sure I was comfortable with the process.

I wasn’t aware that you could personalise the brace, but Serena showed me some options and explained that I could create my own design. So I went for something I knew no one else would have – flames and glitter!

It’s fair to say that my new brace is a talking point – everyone loves it! And it really has changed my life for the better.

Before, I avoided big crowds out of fear of falling over, but my confidence was sky-high at a recent England cricket match. Strangers would comment on my brace and by the end of the day, I’d earned the nickname ‘Robocop’!

Now I know that if my knee collapses, the brace is there to support me. I know my leg won’t go far out of kilter and I won’t fall over if someone were to give me a gentle knock.

Serena’s work has given me the confidence to start leading a normal life again – and for that, I’m eternally grateful.”

Testimonials

"A few weeks ago, in glorious conditions on a Sunday morning my knee managed 16 miles without complaint and I was able to complete my running leg of the Arch2Arc Relay Triathlon event from London to Paris.

Thanks to the help and advice from Claire Robertson, Consultant Physiotherapist and Knee Specialist, it not only managed 16 miles, but at quite some pace at just over 2hrs; and I also managed 3 hours in the channel and 100km on the bike into Paris.

Here we are at the Arc de Triomphe having finished.

 Testimonial picture-1.png

Back in February when I first came in, I remember feeling truly daunted at the idea of such a lengthy time off running and the event day felt a world away so thank you so much for all your help.

I will as ever, continue to work on the strength and stability work that has got me this far."
